Giving back.
The McKinley School PTA is also very active in community service. To set an example for our children and show that we care, the PTA gives back to the community by donating to many area and national charities. We also provide financial support for local scholarships, families in need and award McKinley teachers grant money.
Grants
The McKinley School PTA values and appreciates the staff as well as the students. We support the McKinley teachers and provide more than $12,000 funding for cultural arts enrichment programs. $4,000 is awarded for teacher grants, and $12,000 is awarded to help fund student field trips throughout the school year.
Donations/Funds
The McKinley School PTA also collects money for the Ronald McDonald House, gives to Operation Hope, and helps the Student Council with their food and clothing drives. We also support the McKinley School Giving Tree during the holidays, provide summer school scholarships and maintain a Community Help Fund year-round.
There is also a discretionary fund specifically for McKinley students in need. This fund is issued to the school’s social worker and helps pay for such necessities as eyeglasses, clothing, etc.
Scholarships
The McKinley School PTA awards several scholarships to graduating high school students who were previously McKinley students and plan to further their education. Here is a list of the scholarships we support each year:
Ellen Chico Memorial Scholarship–Ms. Chico was a beloved McKinley teacher who passed away many years ago. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school student who previously went to McKinley, plans to go to college, and has financial needs.
Michael Russell Steele Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who was previously a McKinley student and plans to continue studies in science. Michael was a McKinley second grader who died during the 1995-1996 school year.
Vincent J. Antezzo Scholarship–Mr. Antezzo was principal at McKinley School for over 25 years. This scholarship is awarded to a Fairfield high school graduate who was previously a McKinley student, excelled academically, demonstrated good citizenship, and has financial needs.
Dora Wheeler Scholarship is administered through the Fairfield PTA Council and is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to have a career in the field of teaching. The McKinley School PTA helps fund this scholarship in conjunction with all the Fairfield Public School PTAs. Ms. Wheeler was the founder of the Fairfield PTA Council.
