McKinley School - We are family!
What We Do > Family Events

McKinley families have fun!
Throughout the school year, the McKinley School PTA sponsors many family functions. Some activities are free and some are held as fundraisers. After all, in order to further enhance our children's education, support curriculum and provide student programs, the PTA needs to raise money. We also need lots of helping hands. So please join us for our family events. It's a great way to show your support, socialize with other McKinley parents, and share in some family fun.

Kids can buy books and make their own sundaes all on the same night! In September, when everyone is in the back-to-school mode, the PTA holds a book fair in the gym and an ice cream social in the cafeteria. Kindergartners get one sundae for free. The PTA holds this event to encourage reading, bring McKinley parents together, and create funding for our Reading Incentive Program. If you would like to help out at our Book Fair, please contact Barbara Harrington. Or, if you would rather help dish out ice cream, please contact Nancy Donne.
To promote reading and reading to your child, the McKinley School PTA, in collaboration with McKinley teachers, sponsors Family Read-In Nights. You may come in pajamas, bring a pillow and sleeping bag, but don't forget to bring your favorite book. Stuffed animals are welcome too.
Please contact Eileen Gombos for more information on the fall event or Sheila Altieri for more information on the spring event.
In celebration of McKinley's multi-cultural diversity, the PTA created this wonderful community event. Parents, teachers, and students participate with all of Fairfield invited. The fair, held on a Saturday in October, includes a "parade of nations", crafts, indoor games, raffles, entertainment from around the world, and international food from area restaurants. Many helping hands are needed to make this fair a success. To find out how you can help, please contact the World's Fair Chairperson, Jill Kellerman.
McKinley students present a December holiday show for family and friends. Beginning in October, parent volunteers help students prepare for this special night. Children are grouped by grade levels and rehearse singing holiday songs from around the world. It’s a wonderful family event—sure to get you in the holiday spirit. Refreshments are served after the show. Please contact Jennifer Hoffman for more information.
This winter event brings McKinley families and staff together to watch an exciting Sound Tigers Hockey game in Bridgeport. Group seating is available and tickets are specially priced for McKinley families and friends.

Get on the dance floor and have some fun. Held in February, this popular family dance helps raise money for cultural arts programming. It's a great evening for socializing with other McKinley parents while the kids dance to their favorite tunes. There is a DJ, raffle prizes and refreshments. To find out how you can help, please contact Stacie Vigeant.

Generally held in March, this wonderful event showcases our children's talents and creativity. Whether it's singing, dancing or comedy skits, kids, families and teachers are invited to perform. Parent volunteers are needed. If you would like to help, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators, Barbara Harrington.
Held at Jennings beach in April, the entire Fairfield community is invited for a long weekend of rides, games, food, and fun. The carnival is McKinley's largest fundraiser and each year we hope to raise half of our budget. The carnival's proceeds provide funding for teacher grants, class field trips and cultural arts programming. To find out how you can help at the carnival, please contact Eugene Hoffman.
McKinley families and staff come together to enjoy a Bridgeport Bluefish baseball game. This event generally takes place in June and our very own McKinley Singers open the game by singing The Star Spangled Banner. For more information, contact Mindy Morgan.
